Published: Tis the Season for Giving... and Receiving - Blush Magazine, December 2010
Tis the season of giving…and receiving! It is that time of the year again, when families are coming together for meals, and presents are exchanged with loved ones. We are all so busy with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, that it is easy to forget that there are so many people in our community and around the world that are not as fortunate to share in the same holiday activities. Therefore during the holiday season, why not start a tradition of giving money and/or time to help those around us who are in need? By thinking of others during the holiday season, it brings a whole new meaning to the season. Instead of rushing around thinking about the best new item to get loved ones, we can take time to think about those around us in need, and how much just the basic necessities can make a huge difference in their lives. You might just find that you get a lot more than you give. When you donate money, those contributions are tax deductible, and the donations can be made on behalf of you, or can be made on behalf of a loved one to their favorite charity. A great way to let them know about your giving would be to give them a card to let them know about your contribution and possibly also include a small gift in addition so that they would still have something to open during the family gatherings, and also have been informed of the help that has been provided to their favorite organization. There are also many ways to donate your time by volunteering time at organizations around town during the holidays. The Ronald McDonald House, Community Kitchen and Food Bank can always use the volunteer efforts of people in the community. Helping with these organizations is a great way to get your family or group involved and show our children that working in the community provides benefits that far outweigh the efforts involved. To help, please contact the organization when you decide to volunteer to see when your family or group can best be utilized. Click here to read the article at Blush Magazines website. |
