Different Ways to Donate
It's that time of year again, the time to deck the halls with boughs of holly, hang those stockings with care and take in the sweet aroma of gingerbread through the air! It's Christmas time!
Looking for fun new ways to donate this season? Charitable contributions do not have to be limited to writing checks. Here are a few ideas that seem to be catching on in the true spirit of the Holiday season.
Local non-profit organizations, such as the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity and The Salvation Army, all depend on support from Chattanooga-area residents, especially around the Holidays.
A fun idea to encourage support for these local nonprofits is to have rival schools or businesses go head-to-head in their fundraising efforts. Larger companies could opt to hold competitions within different departments afthe company. Think of how many canned goods could be provided to Chattanooga's organizations with a contest between Baylor and McCallie or Blue Cross and Unum.
To spread the donations evenly, competing schools and businesses could be paired with specific charitable organizations and given a list of items to donate. With enough participation, an annual benefit could be held to recognize the winners. This event would provide a great opportunity to bring together those who donated with members of the non-profit organizations.
And the giving does not have to stop there! Another popular idea is for companies to send pooled monetary donations to local charities based on their employees' particular interests. For example, if the majority of your employees are animal lovers, your company could choose to donate to the local Humane Society.
Don't let opportune moments for donating your time or gifts to those in need pass you by this holiday season. Challenge yourself to seek new ways to donate and be proactive. Get creative. The possibilities are limitless as to how many lives could be touched by the community's generosity.
